As the year-end fast approaches I’m in a bit of a dilemma on what I should be writing in 2017.
Certainly I will continue with my “Romance in War” series even though at this stage I haven’t got a publisher on board to take them on – Book 2 – Dragoon Serenade anxiously awaits to be released to romance readers.
I am currently writing Book 3 – Balor’s Landing which is set on the small island of Toraigh, Ireland in September 1944 and have plans for at least four more books afterwards.
“The Sword and the Rose” Series is another matter. Although Book 4 – Lady of Seville nears completion, and I had envisaged a further 3 books, feedback I have recently received seems to suggest that I should be thinking of writing something else completely different.
It will be hard to let go of the characters I have grown to love, especially Elena de Cellorigo-Borja, my heroine in two of the four books, but even so perhaps a change would be good for my readers as well as for me. Who knows maybe I shall return to complete those three other stories at a later date.
What to write instead is a question I will have to ponder over. It has been suggested that I might consider historical romances with a Scottish flavor – apparently books of this nature are best-sellers regardless if they are sweet or erotic romances, so is it something to consider? I shrug – your guess is as good as mine – sigh!
I have been toying with the idea of either returning to the early to mid-19th century Australia to pick up where I left off with my first novel Beneath Southern Stars or doing something completely different and dabble in fantasy?
For now I suppose I will just enjoy the Christmas holidays with my family and see the New Year in before I put on my thinking cap to overcome this difficult situation I’m finding myself in.
In the meantime I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
